Every family has a fault line.
Most just learn how to step over it.
In Hidden District, it runs between a mother, and a daughter who stopped recognizing each other... and between two sisters, who thought they understood what loyalty was until it cost them everything.
I didn't set out to write about broken sisterhood... but I just couldn't stop. Because some truths don't come out in therapy or in church. They don't get said at the dinner table.
They slip out sideways and in my case, it came out in fiction, in the things characters say when the author finally stops protecting everyone.

That's what I write from.
Not imagination.
Recognition.
